What is Digital locker?

Digital locker or DIGILocker is the service launched by Department of Electronics & Information Technology (DEITY) under Ministry of Communications & IT, Government of India to provide a secure dedicated personal electronic space for storing the documents of Indian citizens. The space on DIGILocker can be utilised for storing personal documents like Permanent Account Number (PAN) cards, Voter ID cards, university certificates etc. and the URIs of the e-documents issued by various issuer departments. On e-signing the documents, one does not have to present the physical documents. The authenticity of the documents is provided electronically. DIGILocker reduces government administrative overheads as the documents issued by the government can be directly placed in DIGILocker and citizens need not physically move to procure the documents.
